Who’s (not) coming to dinner?

CONCEPT

Spurred by a conversation with a friend of mine, “Who’s (not) coming to dinner?” is a reflection on the crumbling preeminence of heteronormativity.

In conversation about mutual friends, my friend was aghast by the decision of a recently married couple, who happen to be gay and both of whom are our  mutual acquaintances, to invite a third person into their relationship. My friend postulated: “what of the sanctity of marriage?” To which I laughed and replied: “The foundational bedrock of heteronormativity that is marriage has long been crumbling.”

“Who’s (not) coming to dinner?”  takes a look at the slow debasement of marriage and the neuroses of the nuclear family. The work, much like the familia structure, descends slowly, fracturing into segments of what once was whole. Supports begin to fail, lines begin to break, light and shadow collide in reflections of what once was and what has yet to come.
